We want YOU to design a beautiful, colorful flag to symbolize the World Drum Project. If you win, your design will be made into a flag and it will fly on at every location worldwide where the World Drum is presented and played. And, you will have a chance to win $500 cash, plus other great prizes!

Judges will select the top ten winners by June 30, 2010 and everyone anywhere in the world may vote for the top ten winners. Only one (1) vote per email address will be allowed. Graphic designs cannot be returned to the creator and become the property of the Sponsors.

Helpful Hints:
1. Learn all you can about the World Drum. Keep its purpose and goals in mind when designing your entry. (See links below)
2. The symbols, drawings, and pictures depicted in your entry should not bleed over into the "fly" area (far right side) of the flag.
3. Keep It Simple -- The flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory.
4. Use Meaningful Symbolism -- The flag’s images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes.
5. Use 2–3 Basic Colors -- Limit the number of colors on the flag to three, which contrast well and come from the standard color set.
6. No Lettering or Seals -- Never use writing of any kind or an organization’s seal -- (it cannot be read from the reverse side)
7. Be Distinctive or Be Related -- Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections

The World Drum Project is a nonprofit organization founded in Norway in October 2006 to advance ideals of peace and environmental issues that bind people together across race, nationalities, religions, and cultures. The World Drum was created in a traditional style by a Norwegian Sami medicine man and drum maker from a single reindeer hide. OFFICIAL “WORLD DRUM FLAG DESIGN CONTEST” RULES
NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY AND NO THERE IS NOT AN ENTRY FEE.
SPONSORS Sponsors are The World Drum Project, Manataka American Indian Council, and 'TME Co., Inc. (“Sponsor”).
TERMThe World Drum Project Flag Contest begins December 1, 2009 and ends August 30, 2010. Entries become the property of Sponsors and will not be returned or acknowledged. The Contest consists of the phases set forth below, as described fully in these Official Rules.
Sponsor’s computer is the official time-keeping device for the Contest.
WHO MAY ENTER Contest is open to everyone anywhere in the world where it is not prohibited. No purchase is necessary and there is no entry fee. Employees of Sponsor and its affiliates and subsidiaries, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such individuals, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter or win a prize. Entrants who are not 18 years of age as of April 30, 2010 must have a parent's or legal guardian's permission to enter.
HOW TO ENTER To enter, go to http://www.manataka.org/worlddrumflagcontest.html Complete the form below with your name, address, telephone number, email address. Send your entry by the automated form or print the form and mail your completed entry form to: Manataka American Indian Council, PO Box 476, Hot Springs, AR 71902-0476. Mailed entries must be complete and accompanied by a CD containing the graphic computer file for entry to be valid. Winners will be contacted by email and provided further information.
Entry must comply with the following requirements (“Entry Requirements”):
1. The Flag Design entry must represent the World Drum Project. 2. The contest is open to everyone anywhere in the world. There is no cost or entry fee. 3. The maximum number of graphic designs per entrant is five (5). 4. No words or seals may be used in the design. 5. Only primary colors may be used (black, blue, green, orange, purple, red, white, yellow) No pastel colors please. No more than four colors may be used. 6. The finished flag material cannot be round, square or any other shape than a rectangle. Keep the width/length proportions between 1:1.5 and 1:2. 7. Designs may be in jpg, jpeg, gif or pdf computer graphic file formats only. PDF format is preferred. No paper drawings will be accepted. Email to: manataka@sbcglobal.net 8. Entries must be submitted on or before April 30, 2010. 9. The Flag Design must each be a single work of original material created by the contestant. By entering the Contest, contestant represents, acknowledges and warrants the submitted Flag Design are original works created solely by the contestant and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the Flag Design. 10. Modifying, enhancing or altering a third party’s pre-existing work does not qualify as contestant’s original creation. Obscene, provocative, or otherwise objectionable content will not be considered, and such determination is solely at the discretion of Sponsor. Limit five entry design graphic per person.
CONTEST PRIZESThe potential winner(s) are required to execute the following: (1) An Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability Release, (2) Warranty of Ownership and License; and (3) Publicity Release. Unless prohibited by law, the potential winner(s) must sign these documents no later than 15 days from the date of prize notification in order for Sponsor to award the prize. Noncompliance or return of prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and, at Sponsor's discretion, selection of an alternate winner.
One (1) First Place Prize Winner will be selected. The Prize consists of the following: The Manataka American Indian Council and 'TME Co., Inc. will create a flag using the winning Flag Design, and will fly the flag at all locations around the world where the World Drum is presented and played in 2010 to 2011. The First Place Winner will also receive a cash prize of $500.00, a patch bearing his/her Flag Design. One (1) Second Place Prize Winner will receive a $100.00 cash prize. One (1) Third Place Prize Winner will receive selected books and DVDs determined at Sponsor’s discretion with an approximate retail value of the Prize is $75.00. All prize details are at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by Winner permitted. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any prize, in which case a prize of comparable value, determined in Sponsor’s reasonable discretion, will be awarded. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received and the skill of the entrant.
JUDGING Contest consists of two (2) rounds of evaluation.
(a) JUDGING PHASE During the Judging Phase, the Judges will evaluate the entries and will select ten finalists based on the following criteria:
1) Genuine artistic ability demonstrated in the Flag Design. 30%
2) Extent to which Flag Design convey the themes of the World Drum Project. 30%
3) Genuine creativity demonstrated in Flag Design. 40%
The Judges will select ten (10) Finalists based on the Judging Criteria. Each Finalist will be notified on or around July 15, 2010 and each will be deemed a Finalist subject to verification of eligibility and execution of an Affidavit of Eligibility, License and Liability Release.
(b) VOTING PHASE. During the Voting Phase, the ten (10) Finalist entries will be posted at http://www.manataka.org/worlddrumflagcontest.html The public will be invited to vote for the best entry. Limit: Each participant may vote for only one (1) entry per day during the Voting Phase. The Finalist entry that receives the highest number of valid votes during the Voting Phase, as determined by Sponsor, will be the potential Prize winner. In case of a tie, the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, will select the potential winner from the tied Entries based on the Judges’ analysis of the entries using the Judging Criteria.
For the Voting Phase: Multiple voters are not permitted to share the same email address. Any attempt by any voter to submit more than the stated number of votes by using multiple/different email addresses, identities or any other method will void all of that voter’s votes in the Contest and he/she will be disqualified from further participation in the Contest. Use of any automated system to vote is prohibited and will result in disqualification. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible or misdirected votes, which will be disqualified. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of any vote, the authorized account holder of the email address used to vote will be deemed to be the voter. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned the email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address. If Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, that a Finalist is in collusion with any voter who submits or attempts to submit an invalid vote, the Finalist will be disqualified.
Winner will be chosen on or about July 30, 2010 and notified by mail on or about August 15, 2010. Decisions of the Sponsor and Judges are final and binding. Sponsor reserves the right not to award all prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the minimum judging criteria are received, as determined by Sponsor and Judges in their sole discretion.
ENTRANT LICENSES/RELEASES The winning entry and the winner’s name, voice, and likeness may be published by Sponsor, its designees, licensees or affiliates, in one of Sponsor’s magazines and/or books and/or online, or other media. By participating, all contestants grant a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to Sponsors and its licensees and designees (the “Authorized Parties”), and acknowledge that the Authorized Parties may use the winning Flag Design, in any media now or hereafter known, without restriction, including commercially using it to fullest extent possible. No Authorized Party will be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY By participating, entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless the Sponsors and its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
CONDITIONS This Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Certain restrictions may apply. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, mutilated, incomplete, illegible, misdirected, or postage-due mail. Entries void if the Sponsor determines the entry to not be an original, or if the entries are illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud or theft.
Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; (b) that the decisions of the Judges are final on all matters relating to the Contest; and (c) if he/she wins that Sponsor may use the winning flag design and winner’s name, photograph, likeness, and/or voice in any publicity or advertising relating to the Contest or future promotions without compensation or approval (except in Tennessee and where prohibited by law). All federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners. In the event that the selected winner(s) of any prize are/is ineligible or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the prize to another winner.
