TIPIS
SMOKIN' TIPIS!
Read the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 Notice below
Manataka
Tipis feature both the traditional Sioux style and the classic egg-shape characteristic of the Cheyenne style
to the rear, giving the floor its unique shape.
This results in giving the owner more usable floor space than most other
teepees.
Backed by our master craftsman's 3-year materials guarantee, and lifetime workmanship warranty. Includes complete instructions for set-up and care.
There is no comparison to our price, selection, craftsmanship and quality materials.
1. SELECT FROM 3 TYPES OF CANVAS TIPIS:
10 OZ.
Cotton Duck - Untreated
This lodge is the most popular type of tipi and inexpensive. It wears well
under the harshest conditions and looks great. Requires
self-treating. Not guaranteed against shrinkage. Great for powwows and
outings. This tipi is 100% cotton with 10
oz. of yarn per square yard. It will be white to off white containing particles
of cotton seeds and fairly coarse weave. Very authentic and close to the
material available in the 1800 period.
10 oz. SunForager - Treated
A 100% cotton army duck, with a very tight weave. Off white in color. Highly resistant to water, mildew, fungi and industrial pollution. This is a copyright treatment used for boat and snowmobile covers. Designed for year-round outdoor use. Actual weight of finished goods over 12 oz. per square yard. Recommended for all areas, especially east of the Mississippi, due to industrial wastes and high humidity. Resistant to sun, rot, mold and mildew.
10 oz. SunForager - Treated and Flame Retardant
The same as Sunforger with the additional treatment CPIA-84 flame retardant.
Meets California code (The best available) Actual weight of finished goods over
13 oz. per square yard. This material will self-extinguish when source of flame
is removed. Does not flash.
Sunforger and Sunforger Flame Retardant are stamped on the edge. This is your guarantee and proof for future reference, that you are receiving what you are paying for. In most cases this is only visible on the inside.
All of our materials treated or not are adversely affected by acid rain (hydrochloric acid) or other chemicals caused by industrial pollution. These will discolor the materials and cause possible water dripping. All of the treated materials are water resistant, not water proof. All of the above materials, treated or not will turn grey with use. This may appear in spots or solid tones of grey or sometimes colored. The materials we use are white to off white and are in accordance with national rendezvous rules.
The seams on all canvas teepees are triple sewn except at stress points such as the lift pole pocket and flaps where the seams receive a generous 4 to 5 rows of stitching adding to the strength and durability of the lodge.

WILDWOOD
WISDOM
By
Ellsworth Jaeger
Illustrated by the
author
This comprehensive and beautifully illustrated handbook was written by Ellsworth Jaeger in 1945. Jaeger was a faculty member of the Buffalo Museum of Science and an authority on American Indian lore and camping. Wildwood Wisdom is dedicated not just to the spirit of our ancestral buckskin men, but also to the native Americans who willingly taught the white newcomers the basic necessities of life and survival in this new land. Jaeger spent many summers in the outdoors and led woodcraft groups throughout the country. His book is addressed mainly to campers, with information on clothes and gear, making fires, and a wonderful section on shelters made with hand-gathered materials. But it can also be read for historical accuracy, a well-researched account of life in America in the 1800s, when survival depended not only on coping with daily perils, but also on ones ability to use wits as well as hands for survival. Theres much more on providing lifes basics: food, shelter and clothing. How to skin a bear, blaze a trail, cook flap-jacks on a flat rock. Plants that are edible, plants that are poisonous, and plants that are medicinal. How to portage a canoe, pack a mule or build a bed in the woods out of willows; wisdom needed for survival in the woods when they were wild. Jaeger wrote this book during the latter part of World War II, when fear, dishonor, horror, treachery and death filled peoples minds. At such a time, he felt, knowing something about this great American folklore was increasingly important to people of this land. At such a time the serenity and peace of the wilderness were never more dear to the hearts of men. Now, more than 50 years later, one might say that Jaegers premise is even more relevant. In these times of great international turmoil, when the earths very life-sustaining atmosphere is threatened by a multitude of human-generated forces, this tribute to the wisdom of a much less energy-intensive way of life could provide example as well as inspiration for a greater respect for the natural forces of life on this planet. "A comprehensive and readable handbook. The New York Times. "A fully indexed guide for the experienced camper . . . a wise and valuable book - The Horn Book.
