BEAR DANCES,
BEAR NAPS
Bear’s
annual sabbatical, nap, hibernation, vacation, or whatever you want to call it,
has begun. The Annual Bear Dance Ceremony was well attended and
beautiful, under the pine, oak and sycamore trees.
A time for peace and prayer. A
time of thought, and nodding. The
website, programs, services, meetings and other functions of Manataka will
continue as usual by volunteers. However, telephone
calls and emails from Bear may not be answered. Maybe
until Spring….Unless they are important. Remember,
bears get reallllly mean and grumpy when suddenly awakened.
NEW PROJECTS
RIP
Nell Hampton and Bob
Swindell will head a project that will help families, churches and funeral homes
to conduct American Indian ceremonies for the deceased. The project has not been
named yet, but research has begun and Chief Henson, a pastor and twenty-year
veteran chief and vice chief of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians
has agreed to assist the committee. Elders of other nations are expected to
contribute to the project.
"I would like my
family and friends to know that I wish to have a traditional Indian funeral when
I pass away. The only problem is, they do not know how," said Nell. Other
members agreed to seek out ways to teach those ceremonies and beliefs to the
"significant others" involved in the lives of our members.
If you have any thoughts
or assistance to give, please contact: RIP </cgi-bin/compose?mailto=1&msg=MSG1038891910.139&start=44567&len=68655&src=&type=x&to=manataka%40myexcel%2ecom&cc=&bcc=&subject=&body=&curmbox=F125725664&a=9c1825121854eb3e6eb93545b2b9f74e>
BABY LUPITA UPDATE
Baby Lupita
Amador is now undergoing the hardest, most potent form of chemotherapy. Her
white blood count is low and dropping. The bone marrow transplant will move
forward. She cries a great deal now.
The story
about Lupita and American Indian healing ceremonies appeared in the Sunday,
November 4 edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has gone worldwide. Prayer
ceremonies are being conducted all over America and across many parts of the
world for this tiny Lakota-Hispanic girl. According to Lupita’s mother,
Cathryn, spiritual leaders and people of many faiths and nationalities are
praying for Lupita.
The Amador
Family is still looking for a place to rent near Hot Springs and Little Rock)
We ask that
you renew prayer ceremonies for this precious child.
