BEAUTIFUL WORDS

God and America

Original Poetry by Gene Loiacono

Ever since the beginning I was taught in schoo
America is the greatest country the world ever knew
It ainít my fault I ended thinking the way I do
I always pledge the allegiance to the red white and blue
It was the first in class the teacher made us do
One Nation under God I believed the words were true
Liberty and justice for all thatís what they taught in school

Our government stole the Indians land thatís a well known fact
With their lies, worthless deals, real estate deeds and pacts
It was easy to take away their land with so many soldiers and rifles in their hands
Those Indians they donít understand
Just savages wasting all that rich and resourceful land
You can still hear their spirits beneath the blood stained sands

Men women and children were kidnapped from distant African shore
Taken from there home theyíll never see no more
Shackled in chain on ships that sailed the ocean waves
Taken to the land of free to be sold as slaves
Itís hard to believe men of God could behave this way
Did they ask for Godís blessing when they bowed there heads and prayed?
Justice will be served come their judgment day

So when our founding fathers spoke of equality for all
They meant just amongst themselves for whom they wrote the law
Not for the Indians whose land the stole away
Not for kidnapped Africans who worked their fields as slaves
Could they not hear their laughter, see the tears when they cried
The Love for their children the spirit in their eyes
Liberty and justice for all was just another lie.

But that was many years ago who is left to blame
That was in the past Iím told today itís not the same
But one thought that keeps pounding on my brain
To think God was on the side of those who caused so much pain
Thereís still many who still would do the same
Fear mistrust and hate to much of that remains
Still to many wars killing in Godís name

God Bless America have mercy on our souls
Help us find the truth in this story being told
What can we do to end this evil curse
What can we do to bring peace upon this earth
All we need to do is follow that simple rule
Do unto others as you would have them do to you
Love and respect each other thatís all we need to do

Alternate verse

God Bless America have mercy on our souls
Help us find the truth in this story being told
Let the strength of Love fill each and every heart
Let us stand by your side let us never part
All we need to do is follow that simple rule
Do unto others as you would have them do to you
Love and respect each other thatís all we need to do

Alternate verse

God bless America have mercy on our souls
For the sins against the ones not so long ago
The one truth that can be spoken the one that must be told
That God would not stand behind the evil weíve come to know
The children who walk this earth it must be hard to understand
The savage sadistic slaughter of the people across these lands
The suffering of there ancestors by the hand of man
